If you’ve ever had a blog post, article, video, or image go viral, you know the kind of impact it can have on your site traffic, marketing campaigns, sales, and more. Viral content can generate tons of backlinks to your content, improving your SEO, increasing your search traffic, generating more leads, and so on.
That sounds great, doesn’t it? But how do we go about getting our content to go viral? The key is to generate social buzz around your article. Share your content with your social media followers and get others to do the same. With the right content, the right situation, and a little bit of effort, your post could snowball and reach thousands (or tens- or hundreds-of-thousands) of viewers.
Write Viral-Worthy Content
Before you even think about a post going viral, you have to ask yourself if your content is worthy of going viral. Will other people be interested in reading and sharing your article? Does it appeal to a large audience? Is it innovative, ground-breaking, and exciting, or is it something that hundreds of people have written about before? If it is something that has been written about before, is your version better?
These are questions you should ask yourself before assuming that your content is worthy of going viral.
This is by far the most important step. If your content is not worthy of going viral, there is very little chance that it will. You cannot expect every post your make to go viral – it just doesn’t work that way. Viral content takes time and effort, a lot of research, and a little bit of luck.
If you have content that you believe is worthy of going viral, then we can begin.
Share Your Content
The first step is to share your content across your social networks. Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Linkedin, and any others you have a presence in. Encourage your followers, family and friends to share your content as well. The more shares you get, the wider your reach will be.
On the web page your content is posted to, make sure that you have all the relevant social media share buttons so others can share your content as well. Social buzz is about getting as many shares as you can in a short time to spread your influence as far and wide as you can.
Call To Action
Often times a good way to get lots of social shares is to implement a call to action for your viewers. People will share content that is relevant to them even if there is nothing in it for them, but if there is something in it for them they are much more likely to promote your content.
- Encourage users to share your content in order to download a white paper.
- Publish an eBook and allow free downloads for a Tweet.
- Hold a content and require a social share as an entrance fee.
There are many other interesting and unique ways to encourage users to share your content. Be genuine, and creative!
Viral Content Buzz
Viral Content Buzz is one of my favorite tools, and the first one I turn to when I want to get a boost in generating some buzz around my best posts.
Viral Content Buzz is the free social media promotion platform that lets you get the word out for your own articles by sharing other people’s content. In short, you earn credits for sharing other people’s stories and you can then spend those credits on your own projects: free publicity coupled with high-quality approach is our selling point.
What makes Viral Content Buzz so great is that you are able to help other content authors in your niche (or in other niches) promote their content, and get promotion in return from other users. The more people that use this service, the more valuable it will become.
Currently, Viral Content Buzz allows you to tag your post to the following niches:
- Fashion & Shopping
- Finance & Law
- Health & Beauty
- Home & Garden
- SEO and Social
- Sports & Fitness
- Web Design
Because other Viral Content Buzz users are able to sort content by niche, they can choose to only share the content that is relevant to their audience. This means that the shares that you get are more valuable.
Viral Content Buzz allows users to share content to Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and StumbleUpon. I hope they integrate Google+ some day!
Empire Avenue is really a social media platform all it’s own, but there is one feature that can help you get a social boost. Empire Avenue offers “missions,” not different than Viral Content Buzz’s projects.
One of the defining features of Empire Avenue is the ability to create, and complete Missions. By creating Missions you can increase activity across your social networks, and by completing missions you can gain Eaves…
With essentially the same concept as Viral Content Buzz, Empire Avenue missions can be built around social shares. Because Empire Avenue is built on trust, you can run any type of mission you like. Say you want likes and views on a YouTube video – you got it. What about Tweets or Retweets? Yup. And Google +1’s? Absolutely. If you can think it – you can run a mission and accomplish it.
The key to Empire Avenue is offering a large enough reward to ensure that your mission is accepted by other users. Missions will cost you a form of currency called Eaves, which you can accumulate through completing other missions, investing stock in other users, or through purchase. The possibilities are endless, which is what makes Empire Avenue such a great place.
I will admit that Empire Avenue is a little difficult at the start, and you will need to put some time and effort into it. In the long run, however, Empire Avenue and it’s users will reward you for doing things that you are already doing, like being social on your social media platform(s) of choice, completing other missions, and investing in other users. If you give it a real shot, you will find success.
Other Niche Content Aggregation Sites
You know your niche better than I do, but there are lots of other sites out there that you can submit your content to with the potential of it making the front page – which could result in the exposure you are looking for. Below I’ve listed a few that I’ve used in the past and are relevant to my content.
- BizSugar – Business/Marketing
- Inbound.org – SEO/Inbound Marketing
- SmarterContent – SEO/Inbound Marketing
- Blokube – Social Media/Blogging
- MySEOCommunity – SEO/Marketing
- TheWebBlend – Design/Development
There are obviously tons more sites like these out there, and probably a handful for your niche. You’ll just need to find them, get involved in the community, and submit content.
Most sites like this frown upon submitting your own content, so make sure that if you do submit your content, it really is worthy of the site. Also make sure that you also submit relevant content from other users to build trust and relationships.
In the end, it really all comes back to your content being worthy of going viral. If other people don’t want to share your content, they wont. The majority of your time should be spent writing good, shareable content, and with a little luck, the rest will fall into place.
